The experience of Julian Brown and Marty Yakas, through their respective companies, covers the full range of property sectors including logistic parks, office buildings, small and large scale retail internationally, but most relevant, Social Housing and private housing including stand-alone homes, multi family housing, apartments and Marae throughout New Zealand.
Housing
YakasKauri Group have delivered a number of Kāinga Ora Projects with various typologies suited to the needs of the local community. These include single bedroom stand alone dwellings, multi bedroom terraced/duplex homes, large stand alone homes for generational living, and walk up apartments. These properties are all HomeStar 6 Rated and constructed within the Kāinga Ora M255 Standard.
YakasKauri Group have delivered Social Housing Projects together with Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Social Housing projects currently in development include a 124 apartment development at 30 Hospital Road, Auckland for Te Whānau o Waipariera Trust, and a 14 unit development for Kāinga Haumaru in Pukekohe.
International Experience
Julian Brown brings significant international commercial and financial engineering expertise gained from more than a decade developing and investing into property in Europe. Together with institutional capital partners, between 2004 and 2013, Julian led the acquisition, development and management of 60 properties in London, Germany and Poland with a purchase value of €255 million. These properties included office, small and big-box retail, logistics and more than 1,250 residential units.

Kāinga Haumaru Ltd is a subsidiary of Ember Wellbeing Trust and will be constructing 14 one and two bedroom apartments to house those who require support for mental health and addiction.
The funding for the Project is being provided by bank finance from ASB Bank and client equity. The Project achieved Resource Consent in February 2023 and started in April 2024.
The apartments will be constructed to meet MHUD Standards,
with some apartments having a Lifemark 4 rating.

This development for Kāinga Ora included 5 duplex or standalone homes of varying typology. They were constructed to meet HomeStar 6 rating and the Kāinga Ora M255 Standard.
These homes were built during the challenging times of Covid, where materials were difficult to source and rising in price. Despite this the development was constructed on time and within budget. The construction cost of this project was $2.5 million.

This development involved the construction of a 2 level five bedroom home, to meet the urgent need for housing in Kerikeri.
The home was constructed in record time and within budget. Along with HomeStar 6 rating and Kāinga Ora M255 standards applied. The construction budget was $1.4 million.
